Last time
Already in 2019 RedBull organised an event called “RedBull unEversE”, which was held in the RedBull Gaming World by Logitech in the Verkehrshaus in Luzern. At this time, I was asked if we as the Servette Rocket League Team would like to participate in the event and play a showmatch against the Rocket League team of Lausanne. I was happy about the invite and we ended up winning the showmatch with a quite dominant performance.
The Rocket League part was only a small part in the whole event tho, where team blue had to compete against team red. Our win gained some points for our side, but at the end of the day, the other team won the whole competition. Although the other team won, everyone who participated in the event received some goodies from Logitech. I got a Logitech Pro X Headset, a Logitech G502 Wireless Gaming Mouse and a Mousepad which could charge the mouse directly. I still use this headset on a daily basis and it’s perfect for me.
The second edition
This year it was a bit different. RedBull invited 2 swiss “pros'' from 6 different games to participate in the event. One player from the swiss german side and one from the swiss french side. At the end there was a team blue that consisted of all the swiss-french pros and team red with all the swiss-german pros. I was put into the swiss-french side, because I am playing for Servette. This was unfortunate, because I am living near Basel and my french is not really good… Luckily everyone was able to speak english and we got along with each other. At the live event, both teams got 2 more members. They were influencers that got invited from RedBull as well. Julian and Ramin from uni.gag, Robin from Schwiizchiste and additional to them was Tina Umbricht. Tina and Ramin joined us on the blue side, Julian and Robin joined the red team.
The bootcamp
Unlike the first edition, RedBull organised a bootcamp for the players to get to know each other, make a strategy for the event and coach the other players. This was very nice, because I was able to talk to my team and get coachings in all the games that were going to be played at the live event. We had a hotel room to sleep and got invited to eat in restaurants. They cared a lot how we were feeling and did the best to make the bootcamp as good as possible. Very good work!
We did some scrims against the red team in the different games and I played Super Smash Bros against many other players. I think I spent most time playing smash and really enjoyed learning it. For me it’s very cool to meet people from other games, because normally I concentrate on Rocket League and don’t know that much about the other game titles except for some results in some swiss leagues. Everyone was super chill and it showed me once again that the esports community is so nice.
The games
I was pretty sad about Rocket League not being part of the games that were played at the event, but I still looked forward to learning something new. The hardest game to learn in such a short time was League of Legends. There are so many different items, champs and abilities, that you simply can't learn all of them in a short bootcamp on a single weekend. I tapped my way onto the lane and spamed buttons, as soon as there was danger... Later on I learned about the basics of the game and was able to play "decent".
In contrast to League of Legends, was CS:GO pretty easy and simple to get started. I used to play Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 some years ago so I kind of knew the basics of a shooter. I struggled a bit, but after all I think I knew what I was doing. At the event, DexxM basically carried us all to the win. He was the CS:GO coach and showed me some nice tips and tricks, which has helped a lot. I think I ended up being second on the scoreboard and the best thing was that I defused my first bomb at the live event and didn't know which button to press lmao... (they all screamed at me to press E)
Super Smash Bros is the game I have played the most at the bootcamp. GomGem was the coach of my team and tried to show me everything. I think I played this game as I was around 14 years old with a friend for some hours, but never owned anything like that. GomGem was a very patient coach and I think he did a good job. Thank you very much @GomGem at this point. At the live event I had to play against Syntax, who is a good friend and a rival in the Rocket League scene. He controlled his character like he's been playing smash all his live and I got smashed... The map we had to play on had those small platforms above the flying island and the island was not flat so that kinda messed with my head, but I don't want to take this as an excuse. Syntax played very well and really deserved this win.
The last game I played at the live event was Fifa. Every person controlled one player on the pitch except the Fifa Pro, he controlled the rest. Our Pro was DiMorientes10 and he was insane in the defense... Whenever our opponents were trying to attack, he shut it down and passed the ball to one of us. This concluded into a nice win in Fifa which has given us some points for the whole event. The other games at the live event were Retimed, Super Mario Kart and Minecraft. It was very funny to watch the other players or/and the influencers play those games.
The live event
The organisers planned a dinner for all the participants the evening before the live event, but unfortunately I couldn’t attend because I had a RLRS match. I arrived on Saturday morning at the Verkehrshaus Luzern and waited for the others to come so we could go in together. After a while everyone was inside the RedBull Gaming World by Logitech Area and then we had several briefings about what will happen when and what we have to do during the day. First we were allowed to set up on the computers while the other team was going upstairs for the makeup. A bit later my team had to go up to get some makeup as well. It was a new experience to me, because I think I was never getting makeup before at an event. As everyone was nice and pretty, we had to take several pictures and gifs for the production. I really loved it, that the photographer asked me if I’d like to do more than just one pose so I could maybe use the professional photo for more than just this.
The event started around 1pm with the influencers playing Retimed against each other. Then we played game after game until around 6pm. I sadly had to skip the minecraft part, because I had to play another RLRS Match. At the end of the day, team red gained more points and won the whole event. I’m not really sad about this, because I had an awesome time with everyone and I was just overall happy to be there.
Thank you
Afterall it was probably the best event to meet awesome people from the esports community and learn about new games. I am super grateful that they have invited me to this event and I can't wait to see more of those events in the future.
Big thanks to RedBull for making this possible! It's just amazing.
Not only RedBull, but everyone who made this event possible is awesome and I want to thank all of you!
All the professional pictures are from the RedBull Contentpool. I'm very happy, that I am allowed to use these pictures :).
